Who we are

A* Science is an online learning platform providing an illustrated course for IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (https://astarscience.vercel.app). This policy explains what information we handle when you use the service, and why.

Information stored on your device

Your learning activity — chosen exam board and subjects, lesson completion, scores, checkpoint results, Study Buddy unlocks and your selected Study Buddy — is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. This information stays on your device; it is not transmitted to us and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data, or using the "reset all progress" option in the app, removes it.

Information you provide when creating an account

Where account sign-in is offered, you may create an account using Google Sign-In. When you do, we receive basic profile information from your Google account: your name, email address and profile picture. We use this only to operate your account — identifying you when you sign in, associating your course access with you, and contacting you about your account or purchases. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not request access to other Google services such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar or Contacts.

Payments

Memberships are paid through Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details are entered on and processed by Stripe's secure checkout — we never receive or store your full card number. We receive from Stripe the information needed to operate your membership, such as which plan you purchased, the payment status, and your subscription renewal dates. Stripe's handling of your payment information is described in Stripe's own privacy policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use browser storage and strictly necessary cookies to make the service work — for example keeping you signed in and remembering your course progress on your device. Stripe may set cookies during checkout for security and fraud prevention. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently run third-party analytics or tracking on the site.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of service providers to run A* Science: our website hosting provider (which processes standard technical logs such as IP addresses in order to serve the site securely), Stripe for payments, and Google for optional sign-in. Each processes information only as needed to provide their service.

How long we keep information

On-device progress remains until you clear it. Account information is kept while your account exists. Payment records are retained as required for accounting and legal obligations.

Your choices and rights

You can clear your on-device progress at any time from the app. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information we hold about you, and we will respond in line with applicable data-protection law. Deleting your account does not automatically refund or cancel an active billing period — see our Terms for how cancellation works.

Children

A* Science is a study tool for secondary-school students. Where a user is below the age at which they can consent to data processing in their country, a parent or guardian should create and manage the account and any purchase on their behalf.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Payment processing is handled by Stripe's certified infrastructure. We limit the information we collect in the first place — the less we hold, the less can go wrong.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the service handles information, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above.
